Welcome to Blessed Reading!

I find that as I spend more time writing and reading, the company with which I mix and mingle have similar interests. I’ve met some wonderful writers, mostly women, and their stories are ones that need to be shared.

My plan is to list books published by myself, and by my friends and contacts, to help gain further exposure for those books. If you’d like to join in the fun, please do contact me. I can be reached at kathie at vadirectory dot net.

Criteria for a book to be listed? It must be a book that blesses the reader and adds something special to their life. It is a book that gives back and it can be in almost any genre at all. It must not contain adult only themes or anything that might be offensive.

If you have a review you’d like to add for each book, please do so at the comments section for that particular book. Please note, the comments are moderated.

Finally, please do explore the links on this page and especially the resources for writers - you’ll find some great sites!

Thank you,

Rock Star Mommy

If you are seeking inspiration to follow your dreams…read this book

Here is an excerpt about the book from the site:

Rock Star Mommy is a rallying cry for every woman who fondly recalls when she spent more time in mosh pits than “Mommy and Me” classes. From the moment Judy Davids donned a pair of go-go boots and jumped onstage, she embarked on an unforgettable journey. Rock Star Mommy chronicles Davids’ experiences as a music fan, a mother, and the leader of the Mydols—one of the first “mommy” rock bands in the country.

And here is a few questions others asked about the book:

Why rock? Well, it’s not for the money! It doesn’t even pay for the babysitter. It’s all about freedom. I have a lot of clothes I can get away with because I’m in a band–like my pink go-go boots and a zebra-print miniskirt. It’s creative, it’s fun and it’s silly.

How did the Mydols start? The Mydols formed on a whim during a backyard barbecue five years ago. Though I grew up singing into a hairbrush, none of us had any musical training. We had to teach ourselves to sing, write songs and play instruments.

What advice do you have for other potential rocker moms? You have to have determination. And it helps to be delusional. I learned how to play guitar and write songs and I’ve had unimaginable success. Not money success. But when we play, we see a lot of smiling faces. They aren’t mesmerized by our skills, but because we are just like them. So what are you waiting for? The Guitar Center is open until 9:00.

The following is an excerpt from L. Y. Marlow’s Award winning

Color Me Butterfly:

“Mattie pushed Deller’s leg from the pit of her stomach, causing

Deller to stir. She turned away from the sunlight to salvage a

few final moments before the familiar sound of their mother’s

footsteps approaching their room marked morning. Instead, she

was alarmed to hear the thunderous voice of her father—at it

again—screaming at their mother for something Mattie couldn’t

quite make out because Isaac’s anger obliterated reason.

She pulled the blanket over her head to silence him, but she

could tell from the tone and depth of his voice that today would

be a bad day, the kind when she was reminded that he was no

longer their daddy. He was Isaac, with a capital “I.” They no

longer thought of him as the father who used to play with them,

take them to see a picture show, and lead them in birthday song.

Their Daddy had disappeared, replaced by this volatile, angry

man.

When the loud voices were replaced by loud thumps, they all sat

up in their beds and looked at the door, imagining what was

happening to their mother on the other side…”

Fight Like a Girl

Written by Lisa Bevere this is definitely a book for women who find it difficult being a woman or are anxious about their place in society. So many women today think they have to ‘fight’ on the same terms as men in the corporate world and everywhere else in order to achieve and find their place in life. That is not the truth and Lisa shares with the reader just how things should be, taking them back to the very beginning of time, when Adam and Eve were created.

In ‘Fight Like A Girl’ we are given permission to be feminine and to celebrate the very values and potential that God placed within each one of us. Definitely a thought-provoking read and one I recommend to all.

I saw Lisa in action at the Every Woman Conference, at Oxford Falls Sydney in 2007 and was taken by her voraciousness in her topic - she is on a quest to help women take back what belongs to them - their femininity and their rightful role in life as nurturers, carers, and daughters of God.

A Very Special Child

In her work, Debra Shiveley Welch tenderly tells of the Lord giving attributes to her yet unborn son while in the womb of the frightened young mother. God takes some sweetness from the Cherubs, sweet music from the birds, laughter from the dolphins, and wraps them in love from the mother, placing it all carefully into the spirit of the unborn babe. A beautiful gift of life waiting to be unwrapped and cherished and placed in the arms of a loving mother and father.

Gold “Outstanding Read” Seal of Approval

I firmly believe that I have received the same child I was meant to receive, whether I gave birth or adopted. The same soul, the same entity, was meant to be mine, from the beginning of time. Debra Shiveley Welch
